Ensign-isms

An ensignism is a story about Taylor, Alisa, Cassidy, Mckay, and Kelsey Ensign. These stories may be elaborate or mundane, but with the combined personalities of our little family, they are sure to be entertaining.

Dad, I have a Secret

Recently, as part of a preschool unit, Mckay planted Basil seeds. He has been super excited to watch the seeds begin to sprout and grow. Shortly after the seeds sprouted and the small leaves began to form Mckay asked me what Basil was. After explaining it is something used to season foods and citing some examples of times when his Mom uses Basil to season his food, he seemed content and placed his small cup back on the window sill.

As I was tucking him into bed that night he said, "Dad, I have a secret."  I asked him what his secret was and he replied, "I ate one of the leaves... is that the part you are supposed to eat?" When I said yes, he said, "It was good."

I waited until I got out of his room before laughing. I am glad he enjoyed the taste of such a small leaf.

The next morning when I was making him scrambled eggs, he asked if I would put some of his Basil leaves into his eggs. I explained that perhaps we should wait until the Basil has grown a bit more.
